A Local Authority in Central England are looking for a GIS Policy Planner to join our Planning Policy team.
On a remote working arrangement this is an exciting opportunity for an individual with experience in both Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and planning policy development/ the planning sector to play a key role in shaping sustainable growth and development.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing, analysing and presenting spatial data to support policy-making, while contributing to the preparation, review and monitoring of planning policies and local plan documents. You will work closely with planning officers, stakeholders and external partners to ensure evidence-based decision-making and effective spatial planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce, maintain and analyse spatial datasets using GIS software.
- Create high-quality maps and visualisations to support planning policy documents, reports and consultations.
- Support the preparation, review and implementation of Local Plans and other planning policy documents.
- Gather, interpret and present evidence to inform planning policy recommendations.
- Assist with monitoring housing, employment, environmental and infrastructure data.
- Undertake research and analysis relating to planning policy, demographic trends and land use.
- Support public consultations, stakeholder engagement and policy examinations.
- Ensure GIS databases and planning datasets are accurate, up to date and compliant with relevant standards.
- Prepare reports, committee papers and briefing notes for senior officers and elected members.
About You
You will have a strong understanding of planning policy alongside practical GIS expertise, with the ability to analyse complex information and communicate findings clearly.
Essential Requirements
- Experience using GIS software, preferably ESRI ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Online.
- Knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation.
