I am working with a Local Authority in the South West who are seeking a Principal-level Planning Policy Officer to support the Planning Policy team on their Local Plan. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced planner to contribute to strategic decision-making as the team moves into the next phase of the Local Plan, including site assessment and public consultation preparation.
The Role:
As the Principal Planning Policy Officer, you will:
• Provide oversight and support to officers working on individual Local Plan projects.
• Contribute strategic input into the development of the Local Plan, including drafting strategic options and assessing potential development sites.
• Work closely with Members to communicate evidence clearly and build support for the preferred direction of the plan.
• Assist in preparing for public consultation scheduled for summer.
• Translate complex technical evidence into accessible strategic options to support decision-making.
Contract Details:
- Duration: 3-months initially
- Hours: Full-time
- Rate: £55 an hour via Umbrella
Experience Required:
• Strong experience with Local Plan preparation and interpreting evidence bases.
• Skilled at translating technical planning evidence into strategic options.
• Confident engaging with Members and presenting planning evidence clearly.
• Experience in a collaborative, small-team environment preferred.
Meetings/Attendance:
• Attendance at monthly key Member meetings required.
• Additional meetings as needed to support projects or Member engagement, which may be grouped with the above meetings.
