Planning Policy Manager – West Midlands
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: £650–£750 per day (Inside/Outside IR35 – TBC)
Working Pattern: Hybrid (Flexible Office & Remote Working)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Policy Manager to play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of a West Midlands authority.
This contract position will see you leading the development of a new Local Plan, working collaboratively with two neighbouring authorities as part of a strategic, cross-boundary planning initiative. This is a high-impact role, ideal for a professional who thrives in complex policy environments and can confidently drive projects forward.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and delivery of the emerging Local Plan
- Manage and coordinate cross-authority collaboration with partner councils
- Provide strategic planning policy advice to senior stakeholders and elected members
- Oversee evidence base production, consultation processes, and examination stages
- Ensure compliance with national planning policy and regulatory requirements
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience leading Local Plan preparation within a local authority setting
- Strong understanding of UK planning legislation and policy frameworks
- Demonstrable experience working across multiple stakeholders or authorities
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment
