Development Management Manager / Head of Planning positions (Interim)
Authorities Across England | £500–£800 per day | 12 Month Contracts | Hybrid
I’m currently working with a number of local authorities across England seeking experienced Development Management Managers and Heads of Planning for long-term interim assignments.
These are 12-month contracts offering £500–£800 per day, with flexible hybrid working (once or twice a week in the office).
The Roles
These are senior leadership positions, responsible for overseeing Development Management services and, in some cases, the wider Planning function.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Leading and managing Development Management teams
- Overseeing major and strategic planning applications
- Driving performance, service improvement, and delivery targets
- Providing strategic advice to Members and senior leadership
- Managing budgets, resources, and operational planning
- Supporting wider place-shaping and growth agendas
Requirements
- Proven experience at DM Manager / Head of Planning level within a UK local authority
- Strong track record managing major applications and high-performing teams
- Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills
- Ability to operate at a strategic and political level
- RTPI membership (desirable for some roles)
