Senior Planner (Development Management)

Location: East Midlands
Rate: £40+ per hour
Contract: 3-Month Rolling Contract
Start: ASAP
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 day per week in the office

A Local Authority in the East Midlands is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to support their Development Management team on an initial 3-month rolling contract.

This role will involve managing a caseload of minor applications and small-scale major developments (up to 20 units), helping the authority maintain performance targets and deliver timely planning decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of minor planning applications and small residential schemes (up to 20 units).

  • Assess planning applications from submission through to determination, including site visits, consultations, and negotiations.

  • Prepare delegated reports and committee reports with clear planning recommendations.

  • Provide pre-application advice to developers, agents, and members of the public.

  • Liaise with internal departments, statutory consultees, and stakeholders.

  • Assist with planning appeals and contribute to maintaining statutory decision timescales.

Senior planners typically handle complex planning applications, provide planning advice to applicants and stakeholders, and prepare reports for decision-making or planning committee consideration
