Planning Consultant – Exeter / Hybrid

Location: Exeter, Devon
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Type: Full-time, permanent

Are you a driven and commercially minded Planning Consultant looking to take the next step in your career?
Our client, a specialist rural planning and development consultancy with a strong reputation across the South West, is looking to expand their Exeter-based team. This is a rare opportunity to join a respected firm that combines deep planning expertise with a passion for supporting landowners, rural enterprises, and sustainable development.

The Role

You’ll be joining a small, collaborative team of planning professionals working on a diverse portfolio of projects – from agricultural and equestrian developments to rural diversification, tourism, and renewable energy schemes.
Your work will involve:

  • Managing a range of planning applications, appeals, and rural development projects.

  • Providing expert advice to clients on planning strategy and policy.

  • Liaising with local authorities, consultants, and landowners.

  • Contributing to business development and maintaining strong client relationships.

About You

You’ll likely be:

  • MRTPI qualified (or working towards accreditation).

  • Experienced in planning consultancy, ideally with a focus on rural or environmental projects.

  • Confident managing projects from concept through to delivery.

  • A clear communicator who enjoys client interaction and problem-solving.

A background in rural planning, environmental management, or property development would be a distinct advantage.

Why Apply?

Our client offers a friendly, down-to-earth culture where professional excellence and work–life balance go hand in hand. You’ll benefit from:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Flexible hybrid working options.

  • Ongoing professional development and support toward chartership if required.

  • The opportunity to make a tangible difference in rural communities and sustainable land use.

If you’re looking for a role that blends professional challenge with meaningful impact in the rural planning space, we’d love to hear from you.
