Principal Planning Policy Officers – Multiple Roles (Nationwide)
6-Month Contracts | £50–£60 per hour | Hybrid (1 day per month in office)
We’re currently working with a number of Local Authorities across England seeking experienced Principal Planning Policy Officers to support key planning policy workstreams on an interim basis.
These roles offer the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping Local Plans and strategic policy at a critical stage, with highly flexible working arrangements.
The Role:
You’ll take ownership of complex policy areas, helping drive forward Local Plan preparation, review, and delivery. Principal Officers typically lead on evidence-based policy development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning initiatives within local authorities ()
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on the preparation, review, and implementation of Local Plans and planning policy documents
- Manage complex policy projects, including evidence base, consultations, and examinations
- Provide expert planning policy advice to senior officers, members, and stakeholders
- Draft high-quality reports, policy documents, and supporting evidence
- Engage with internal teams, developers, and external partners
- Support housing delivery, site allocations, and wider strategic planning objectives
