Planning Consultant

📍 Manchester (Hybrid – 3 days in the office)

The Role

We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Planning Consultant to join a consultancy in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a supportive consultancy, working on a diverse range of planning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects.

You will play a key role in supporting project delivery, contributing to technical workstreams, and developing your skills in planning practice, project coordination, and client engagement. This role offers a clear pathway towards RTPI chartership and long-term career progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of planning applications, reports, and supporting documentation, including Planning Statements and EIA inputs
  • Undertake planning policy research, site appraisals, and baseline data collection
  • Support the coordination of Environmental Impact Assessments, including liaising with technical specialists
  • Prepare high-quality written reports, figures, and presentation materials
  • Liaise with local planning authorities, consultees, and project stakeholders as required
  • Support project management activities, including programme tracking and document control
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Actively work towards Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) through structured professional development

About You

  • Degree (and ideally a postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Around 3+ years’ experience in a planning role (consultancy or public sector desirable)
  • Good understanding of the UK planning system and policy framework
  • Strong analytical, writing, and organisational skills
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated to learn and progress
  • Working towards RTPI chartership
