Planning Consultant
📍 Manchester (Hybrid – 3 days in the office)
The Role
We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Planning Consultant to join a consultancy in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a supportive consultancy, working on a diverse range of planning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects.
You will play a key role in supporting project delivery, contributing to technical workstreams, and developing your skills in planning practice, project coordination, and client engagement. This role offers a clear pathway towards RTPI chartership and long-term career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of planning applications, reports, and supporting documentation, including Planning Statements and EIA inputs
- Undertake planning policy research, site appraisals, and baseline data collection
- Support the coordination of Environmental Impact Assessments, including liaising with technical specialists
- Prepare high-quality written reports, figures, and presentation materials
- Liaise with local planning authorities, consultees, and project stakeholders as required
- Support project management activities, including programme tracking and document control
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Actively work towards Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) through structured professional development
About You
- Degree (and ideally a postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline
- Around 3+ years’ experience in a planning role (consultancy or public sector desirable)
- Good understanding of the UK planning system and policy framework
- Strong analytical, writing, and organisational skills
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated to learn and progress
- Working towards RTPI chartership
