Planning Policy Lead (Housing Delivery)

Location: Hybrid – East Midlands / UK (1 day per week in the office)
Rate: Up to £65 an hour (£6000 take home monthly after tax!)
Contract: 6 Months Initially
Start: ASAP

A Local Authority is seeking an experienced Planning Policy Lead to support a key programme focused on housing delivery, unlocking sites, and facilitating development.

This is a strategic role within the planning service, working across Planning Policy and Development Management to help bring forward housing sites and support the authority’s wider growth and housing objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate planning policy workstreams focused on housing delivery and site allocation.

  • Support initiatives aimed at unlocking stalled or constrained development sites.

  • Work closely with Development Management teams to ensure policy effectively supports deliverable development.

  • Contribute to the preparation, review, and implementation of Local Plan policies and evidence base work.

  • Provide strategic planning advice on housing supply, land availability, and development opportunities.

  • Liaise with developers, landowners, internal departments, and key stakeholders to facilitate development.

  • Prepare briefing notes, reports, and presentations for senior officers and elected members.

Planning policy leads typically oversee Local Plan workstreams, coordinate evidence studies, and provide expert advice on how planning policy can support development and housing delivery
