The Role:
A leading independent planning consultancy is seeking a Senior Town Planner to join their growing team in Chester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to work on a diverse range of projects across the UK, supporting senior staff and directors on major developments while managing your own portfolio of work.

You will be responsible for providing high-quality planning advice to clients, preparing and submitting planning applications, drafting reports and statements, and assisting with development plan representations. The role also involves taking ownership of small to medium-sized projects and supporting the successful delivery of larger schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior team members and directors in driving forward major projects.

  • Manage small to medium-sized planning applications and related tasks.

  • Undertake research, site appraisals, and policy analysis.

  • Prepare planning appraisals, reports, and applications.

  • Liaise with local authorities, consultees, clients, and third parties.

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and colleagues.

  • Contribute creative and original ideas to support project success.

  • Take financial and project responsibility from inception to completion.

  • Keep up to date with changes in planning policy and best practice.

  • Represent the company at external meetings and events where required.

About You:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant field, ideally with MRTPI accreditation or working towards it.

  • 5–10 years’ experience in a planning role within consultancy or local authority.

  • Strong understanding of planning policy and development management processes.

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

  • Confident in client-facing situations with strong presentation ability.

  • Proactive, creative, and solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.

Benefits:
The company offers excellent opportunities for career progression, competitive salaries, annual bonuses, pension contributions, private healthcare, and payment of professional fees. Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available, with options to work from home part of the week.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take the next step in your planning career and work within a collaborative, employee-focused environment.
