Our client – a highly respected planning and development consultancy based in Manchester – is looking to add an enthusiastic Assistant Town Planner to their growing team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside industry-leading professionals on a diverse range of projects across the North West, from major mixed-use and residential schemes to innovative regeneration and sustainability-led developments.


The Role

As an Assistant Town Planner, you’ll support the preparation, submission, and management of planning applications, appeals, and development plan representations. You’ll gain hands-on experience working on complex projects while developing your technical skills and professional judgement in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of planning applications and supporting documents.
  • Conduct site appraisals, research, and policy analysis.
  • Draft planning statements and contribute to development proposals.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, and other consultants.
  • Support senior planners with stakeholder engagement and public consultation.
  • Stay up to date with local and national planning policy developments.

About You

You’ll be an enthusiastic team player with a genuine passion for planning and placemaking. This role suits someone looking to progress toward RTPI chartership while gaining exposure to a wide range of projects and clients.

Essential:

  • Degree (and ideally Master’s) in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organisational abilities.
  • A good understanding of the UK planning system.
  • Ambition to work toward MRTPI accreditation.

Desirable:

  • 6–18 months’ experience within a planning consultancy or local authority.
  • Working knowledge of planning software and development management processes.
