Varnom Ross are working with a Local Authority in Suffolk who are looking for an experienced Principal Planning Officer to join their Development Management team on an interim basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of complex and major planning applications, working within a well-organised team and supported by experienced managers and technical officers.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead on major and complex planning applications from pre-app through to determination
• Provide clear, professional advice to applicants, agents, elected members and stakeholders
• Prepare and present reports to planning committee where required
• Contribute to service improvements and uphold high standards of planning delivery

Requirements:

• Substantial experience within a Local Authority Development Management service
• Proven ability to handle major and complex applications
• Strong understanding of planning legislation, policy and procedure
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Contract details:

• 6-month initial contract
• Rate: £50–£55 per hour, Inside IR35
• Near fully remote working available, with minimal site visits or office presence required
