Interim Principal Planning Officer | Surrey

I am working with a Surrey-based Local Planning Authority who are seeking a highly experienced Principal Planning Officer to join their Development Management team on a temporary basis.

Terms

• £45–£55 per hour
• 6+ month contract
• Hybrid working – 1 day per week in the office

Key Responsibilities

• Tackle major and complex planning applications, including pre-application discussions and negotiations.
• Present applications at committee and act as expert witness at appeals and public inquiries if required.
• Provide robust planning advice to members, developers, and stakeholders.
• Ensure applications comply with national and local policy, and deliver maximum community benefit.
• Support Team Leader where required, however this is not a managerial role.

About You

• Chartered Member of the RTPI (or eligible).
• Strong experience in major applications, including appeals and committee work.
• Confident communicator with excellent negotiation and report-writing skills.
• Able to work independently and manage a complex caseload efficiently.
