environments? The City of London Corporation is looking for a skilled and
motivated Planning Officer to join our Development Division within the Planning and
Development Team. The posts are Senior Planning Officer equivalent.
The Role
As a Planning Officer, you will work closely with the Assistant Director and Principal
Planning Officers to deliver a high-quality, efficient and responsive development
service. You will take responsibility for managing a wide range of planning
applications and associated development matters, including pre-application
discussions, negotiations on planning obligations and providing specialist advice.
This role will involve representing the Corporation in meetings with developers,
agents and stakeholders. You will be instrumental in implementing planning policies,
including the Local Plan, and upholding design standards that protect and enhance
the unique character of the City.
Key Responsibilities
Manage, evaluate and negotiate planning applications and related
development proposals.
Provide expert advice on urban design, conservation, archaeology and listed
buildings.
Interpret and apply national and local planning policy in a City context.
Represent the Corporation in pre- and post-application meetings and ensure
high standards of development are met.
Collaborate with colleagues across departments and maintain positive
relationships with external stakeholders.
Prepare clear, professional reports, briefing notes and recommendations for
committee and public engagement.
Promote high-quality design and contribute to the preservation of the City’s
built and natural heritage.
Deliver excellent customer service in all dealings with applicants, agents, the
public and Members.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation and development trends
affecting the City.
About You
You will be educated to degree level in town planning or a related field and be
eligible for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent
professional body.
We are looking for someone with:
Experience negotiating development proposals, including large, complex and
sensitive schemes.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage confidently with a
wide range of stakeholders.
Solid understanding of planning legislation and development issues in
London.
The ability to deliver professional advice clearly and concisely, both in writing
and in person.
A commitment to high-quality design, sustainability and the City’s unique
planning challenges.
