Planning Enforcement Officer – West Midlands – £40-£50ph (Inside IR35)

I am currently working with a Local Authority client in the West Midlands who are looking to appoint an experienced Planning Enforcement Officer on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension.

The role will primarily involve site-based enforcement work, investigating breaches of planning control, carrying out site visits, preparing reports, and taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary. There is flexibility for some home working where appropriate, but the role will largely involve being out on site.

The council is able to offer part-time hours, with the successful candidate able to work between 20–30 hours per week depending on their availability.

Key Duties:

  • Investigating alleged breaches of planning control.
  • Undertaking site visits, gathering evidence, and liaising with members of the public, developers, and legal representatives.
  • Preparing written reports and recommendations on enforcement cases.
  • Drafting and serving Enforcement Notices, Breach of Condition Notices and other formal notices as required.
  • Preparing evidence and attending appeals, hearings, or court proceedings as necessary.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience working within planning enforcement for a local authority.
  • Strong understanding of relevant planning legislation, policy, and enforcement procedures.
  • Confident carrying out site inspections and dealing with members of the public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Contract Details:

  • Rate: £40-£50 per hour (Inside IR35)
