I'm currently supporting a London Local Authority seeking an experienced Principal Planner to join their Development Management team and take the lead on a portfolio of complex strategic major applications.
This is an urgent requirement and the council is looking for someone who can hit the ground running, taking ownership of major schemes from day one. They're particularly interested in planners who have demonstrable experience managing strategic major applications and progressing complex projects through the planning process.
The role will involve:
- Managing a caseload of strategic major applications
- Leading on large-scale residential, mixed-use and regeneration schemes
- Liaising with applicants, consultants and key stakeholders
- Undertaking site visits where required
- Preparing reports and presenting applications at Planning Committee
- Managing applications against agreed timescales and performance targets
The council is looking for candidates with:
- Significant experience handling strategic major applications
- Strong Development Management experience at Principal Planner level (or equivalent)
- Experience of large-scale housing, mixed-use or regeneration projects
- Planning Committee experience
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- London Borough experience (highly desirable)
- Experience working on GLA-referable applications (particularly attractive)
Rate: Up to £60 per hour for the right candidate.
Working arrangements: Flexible, with attendance required for site visits, meetings and committee where necessary.
