Job Description: Principal Planning Policy Officer
Location: Midlands
Rate: £50–£55 per hour
Contract: Contract opportunity
Working Arrangement: Predominantly remote, with office attendance once a month
Start Date: Flexible – the client can wait up to two months for the right candidate
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Planning Policy Officer to support a local authority in the Midlands with its strategic planning and policy responsibilities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior planning professional with strong experience in planning policy, local plan preparation and strategic development planning. The successful candidate will provide high-level policy advice, contribute to the development and delivery of planning policy documents, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the authority’s planning objectives.
The role offers significant flexibility, with predominantly remote working and just one day in the office per month.
The client is willing to wait up to two months for the right person, making this an attractive opportunity for candidates with existing commitments or notice periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the preparation, review and implementation of local planning policy and strategic planning documents.
- Contribute to Local Plan preparation, evidence gathering and policy development.
- Provide expert advice on national planning policy, legislation and emerging planning guidance.
- Coordinate and interpret evidence base studies to inform policy development and strategic decision-making.
- Support consultations and stakeholder engagement with developers, neighbouring authorities, statutory consultees and the wider community.
- Prepare clear, robust and evidence-based planning policy reports, recommendations and briefing papers.
