Planning Policy Consultant
12-Month Contract | Fully Remote | £45–£55 per hour
A Local Authority I’m working with is looking to appoint an experienced Planning Policy Consultant to support a key phase of its Local Plan programme.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional with a strong policy background to work on a fully remote basis while contributing to high-profile, evidence-led planning work. The contract is expected to run for 12 months, with a likely start date within the next 4–6 weeks.
The Role
You will play a key role in the preparation and review of the authority’s evidence base, helping to inform policy development and site allocation work. The role will involve a significant amount of analytical and assessment work, requiring a solid understanding of planning policy, Local Plan preparation, and the technical evidence that underpins strategic planning decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake site assessments and evaluate land submissions for potential allocation within the Local Plan.
- Review and assess evidence base documents, including housing, employment, transport, infrastructure, environmental, and sustainability studies.
- Evaluate site suitability, availability, achievability, and deliverability in line with national and local planning policy.
- Prepare technical reports, policy papers, and recommendations to support Local Plan decision-making.
- Review consultation responses and technical submissions from developers, landowners, and statutory consultees.
- Liaise with internal teams, external consultants, and key stakeholders to help maintain a robust and defensible evidence base.
- Support the progression of Local Plan documents through key stages of preparation and examination.
