Assistant Town Planner - Planning Consultancy

We are recruiting an Assistant Town Planner to join a well-established and growing planning consultancy in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious early-career planner to work on a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use and regeneration projects across Scotland.
You will join a supportive team of experienced planning professionals, gaining hands-on exposure to projects from initial site appraisal through to determination. The consultancy offers structured career development and support towards achieving RTPI chartered status.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications, appeals and supporting documents.
- Undertaking planning policy research and site appraisals.
- Preparing planning statements and development potential reports.
- Monitoring applications and liaising with local authorities, clients and project teams.
- Supporting senior colleagues on a range of development projects.
- Attending site visits, meetings and public consultation events.
- Keeping up to date with changes to Scottish planning policy and legislation.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
- Some relevant consultancy, local authority or placement experience.
- Knowledge of the Scottish planning system.
- Strong written, analytical and communication skills.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
- A proactive approach and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Membership of the RTPI, or a clear ambition to work towards chartered status.
