Assistant Town Planner - Planning Consultancy

We are recruiting an Assistant Town Planner to join a well-established and growing planning consultancy in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious early-career planner to work on a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use and regeneration projects across Scotland.

You will join a supportive team of experienced planning professionals, gaining hands-on exposure to projects from initial site appraisal through to determination. The consultancy offers structured career development and support towards achieving RTPI chartered status.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications, appeals and supporting documents.
• Undertaking planning policy research and site appraisals.
• Preparing planning statements and development potential reports.
• Monitoring applications and liaising with local authorities, clients and project teams.
• Supporting senior colleagues on a range of development projects.
• Attending site visits, meetings and public consultation events.
• Keeping up to date with changes to Scottish planning policy and legislation.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Some relevant consultancy, local authority or placement experience.
• Knowledge of the Scottish planning system.
• Strong written, analytical and communication skills.
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
• A proactive approach and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Membership of the RTPI, or a clear ambition to work towards chartered status.
