The Opportunity
An established planning and development consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join its Strategic Planning team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated planning professional looking to work on a diverse portfolio of strategic land, residential, mixed-use and development plan projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering planning advice, managing projects, promoting strategic development opportunities, and supporting clients through complex planning processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote large-scale residential and mixed-use developments through Local Plan reviews, growth strategies and development plan processes.
- Prepare and coordinate planning applications from inception through to determination.
- Draft planning statements, representations, reports and strategic planning submissions.
- Represent clients at planning appeals, examinations, inquiries, committee meetings and stakeholder consultations.
- Manage project teams and coordinate multidisciplinary consultants.
- Undertake site appraisals, planning research and policy analysis.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Support business development initiatives and contribute to winning new work.
- Mentor and supervise junior planning staff where appropriate.
- Manage multiple projects effectively while ensuring high-quality outputs and client service.
About You
You will have:
- A minimum of 5 years' post-qualification planning experience within a consultancy, local authority or related professional environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation, policy and best practice.
- Experience working on strategic planning and development management projects.
- Excellent report writing, communication and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and organisational abilities.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
- Commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable Skills
- Experience presenting at public meetings, inquiries or examinations.
- Experience managing project teams and supporting junior colleagues.
- Business development and client relationship management experience.
Requirements
- RTPI membership (or working towards membership where appropriate).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Ability to travel to project sites and meetings as required.
- Flexibility to attend occasional meetings outside standard working hours.
