🚨 Principal Planner – Major Applications | Essex (Local Authority) 🚨
A local authority in Essex is seeking an experienced Principal Planner to join their team on a full-time interim basis (3–6 months).
💰 Rate: £50.00 – £55.00 per hour (umbrella)
📍 Location: Essex
🏢 Working Pattern: Hybrid – Weekly/Fortnightly
💼 The Role
You will play a key role within a busy planning team, working on a diverse portfolio of major and strategic planning applications that will help shape the future growth of the borough.
This is a hands-on role requiring confidence, sound judgement, and the ability to manage complex applications from submission through to determination. You will also contribute to wider service delivery, working collaboratively across planning policy and enforcement where required.
🔍 Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the assessment and determination of major planning applications
- Provide clear, robust recommendations and present at planning committees
- Attend developer meetings and act as a key point of contact for stakeholders
- Advise on planning matters to support effective and timely decision-making
- Work collaboratively across teams to support the wider planning function
✅ About You
- RTPI qualified (or eligible)
- Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy
- Proven experience managing major applications within a local authority
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organised, proactive, and a strong team player
