The Role

As a Senior Planner, you will play a key role in delivering expert planning advice, managing projects, and supporting junior team members. You will be given the autonomy to manage your own work while contributing to wider team objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and submitting planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries
  • Undertaking planning research and preparing site appraisals
  • Writing high-quality reports with clear and well-reasoned recommendations
  • Attending site visits, client meetings, and stakeholder consultations
  • Supporting community engagement, committee meetings, and public examinations where required
  • Managing projects and supporting clients throughout the planning process
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Collaborating with external consultants and stakeholders
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and best practice
  • Using internal systems to support project delivery and workflow management

About You

  • Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Membership of the RTPI (or working towards)
  • Strong experience within the UK planning system, with a significant proportion in the private sector
  • Proven ability to manage projects and deliver planning advice
  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and client-focused approach
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • A proactive, positive attitude and strong team ethic
