Senior / Principal Planning Policy Officer
West Midlands (Hybrid) | £45–£55 per hour | 6–9 Month Contract
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior or Principal Planning Policy Officer to join a forward-thinking local authority in the West Midlands.
This is a 6–9 month contract offering a competitive rate of £45–£55 per hour, with flexible hybrid working (office attendance once every 2–3 weeks).
The Role
You will play a key role in progressing strategic planning policy work, helping to shape long-term growth and development across the authority.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and contributing to Local Plan preparation (Regulation 18/19 stages)
- Preparing and reviewing planning policy documents and evidence base
- Managing consultants and supporting key planning projects
- Providing expert planning policy advice to members and stakeholders
- Supporting examinations, consultations, and cross-boundary working
Requirements
- Proven experience in planning policy within a UK local authority
- Strong understanding of the Local Plan process and statutory requirements
- Ability to manage complex policy workstreams independently
- Experience engaging with stakeholders, members, and consultants
- RTPI membership (or working towards) desirable
