About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to join our growing planning team in West Yorkshire. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments across the region. You will play a key role in managing planning applications, advising clients, and supporting strategic development projects while helping shape sustainable communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a range of planning projects from early feasibility through to determination.

• Prepare, submit, and manage planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries.

• Provide strategic planning advice to clients, developers, and internal teams.

• Undertake site appraisals and planning policy assessments.

• Liaise with local planning authorities, stakeholders, consultants, and community groups.

• Prepare planning statements, supporting reports, and consultation responses.

• Monitor and interpret local and national planning policy and legislation.

• Support business development, including client relationship management and project bidding.

• Mentor and provide guidance to junior planners within the team.

Requirements

• Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or a related discipline.

• Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or working towards it.

• Typically 5+ years’ experience in planning (public or private sector).

• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, particularly within England.

• Proven experience managing planning applications and engaging with local authorities.

• Excellent report writing, communication, and negotiation skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

• Full UK driving licence (desirable).

Desirable Experience

• Experience working on large residential or mixed-use developments.

• Knowledge of West Yorkshire planning policy and local authority processes.

• Experience presenting at planning committees or public consultations.

• Project management or client-facing experience.
