MRTPI Planners

Leeds or Manchester

Are you a dynamic and talented Planning professional looking to take the next step in your career? Do you want to join a growing consultancy and contribute to their continued expansion across the North? If so, my client would be keen to hear from you.

The Role

My client is offering an excellent opportunity for a Senior / Principal Planner or any Chartered MRTPI Planners to join their growing teams in Leeds and Manchester. Their planning division focuses on strategic planning projects—primarily planning applications and land promotions for residential development—and works closely with colleagues in development economics, design, and heritage.

What my client can offer:

  • A competitive salary with a strong benefits package, including private medical cover and payment of relevant professional subscriptions

  • A culture built on trust, empowerment, and autonomy

  • The chance to work on a wide variety of projects, including planning applications and land promotions for a diverse range of sites and clients

  • The opportunity to join a growing team within an established planning consultancy, with the scope to help influence the business strategy for the region

  • Hybrid working, with flexibility to define working patterns that suit your lifestyle inside and outside the office

My client has grown rapidly over the past five years to become a top 20 UK planning consultancy, now home to 50+ town planners across their regional hubs. They also provide complementary socio-economic, heritage, masterplanning, and architectural services. They are seeking ambitious planners to join their Northwest team to drive projects forward and support wider business development activities.

You will be:

An integral part of the team, helping to deliver their ambitions by leading projects, building client relationships, and representing the brand to a high standard.

As a Senior / Principal Planner, you will continue to progress your career within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, while also having ample opportunity to build client relationships and develop your own workload.

You will be involved in projects from the outset—working closely with colleagues, clients, and external consultants to manage schemes through early advice and design stages, right through to securing consent and handling the discharge of conditions and planning obligations. There will also be opportunities to support Planning Appeals and Local Plan Examinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on the development potential of land and buildings

  • Assisting with the preparation of planning applications and appeals

  • Providing planning policy advice and undertaking research

  • Drafting representations to plan consultations and examinations

  • Assisting in identifying land opportunities

  • Working with clients and consultants to help deliver development schemes

  • Supporting business development activities

You will need:

  • A relevant Planning qualification

  • RTPI membership or active progress toward membership

  • A solid understanding of the planning process and planning systems

  • Excellent written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable manner

  • Drive, enthusiasm, commitment, and a collaborative team-player attitude
