Associate Planner
Location: London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Planner to join a leading planning consultancy in London. This role is ideal for a motivated and commercially minded planner who enjoys working across a diverse range of projects and sectors within the commercial development market.

You will join a highly experienced planning team currently delivering a strong pipeline of complex and high-profile projects across infrastructure, industrial and logistics, and mixed-use development. The position offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects while collaborating closely with senior leadership and supporting the development of junior team members.

The Role

As an Associate Planner, you will take a key role in managing and delivering planning projects from early concept through to completion. Working closely with Directors and other senior colleagues, you will provide strategic planning advice, prepare planning submissions, and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.

You will be involved in a wide range of work including planning applications, development appraisals, policy representations, and major infrastructure projects. The role also includes mentoring junior staff and supporting their professional development within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare planning appraisals for land, buildings, and development proposals
  • Undertake research and analysis relating to planning policy and development opportunities
  • Prepare a range of planning applications and supporting documents, including planning statements
  • Draft high-quality reports, interpreting data and providing clear recommendations
  • Contribute to the preparation of Design & Access Statements, sustainability statements, and other planning documentation
  • Liaise and negotiate with local planning authorities, consultees, and third parties
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and professional partners
  • Manage projects from early feasibility stages through to determination
  • Mentor and support junior team members within the planning team
  • Monitor planning policy developments and market conditions impacting clients’ property interests
  • Identify potential new business opportunities and support wider business development activities

About You

The successful candidate will be a proactive and strategic thinker with strong communication and organisational skills. You will be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and working collaboratively within a fast-paced professional environment.

Skills and Experience

  • MRTPI or MRICS qualified
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in planning
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system
  • Excellent report writing, analytical and numerical skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive and solution-focused
  • Experience mentoring or coordinating junior team members is desirable
