An established UK housebuilder is looking to recruit a Planner to join its regional team based in Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic land and planning team and play a key role in identifying, promoting, and securing new residential development opportunities.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Planning Manager, the Planner will provide expert planning advice to the land team on all aspects of planning policy and development control affecting land acquisition. The role will also involve the management and promotion of strategic land, helping to bring forward new development opportunities for the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day planning advice to land teams on residential and mixed-use development opportunities
  • Manage and promote the strategic land portfolio to deliver sites to the business at the earliest opportunity
  • Identify potential development opportunities through emerging and adopted planning policy
  • Promote sites through the Local Plan process, keeping senior stakeholders informed of progress
  • Support negotiations with landowners and agents to secure land interests
  • Prepare planning reports for potential land acquisitions, identifying planning and commercial risks
  • Assist in developing planning strategies to secure planning permissions within required timescales
  • Liaise and negotiate with local authority officers, stakeholders, and local communities regarding development proposals
  • Support negotiations relating to Section 106 agreements and advise on commercial implications
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, including scoping and screening opinions
  • Attend Planning Committee meetings and present proposals where required
  • Prepare and manage planning appeals, including supporting hearings and inquiries
  • Manage consultant teams and planning budgets, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed financial parameters
  • Contribute to wider business performance and KPI objectives

Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience working as a Planner within either the private or public sector
  • Experience presenting to local authorities, stakeholders, or community forums
  • Planning, surveying, or related degree (or equivalent) desirable
  • Working towards or holding RTPI or RICS membership
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong administration and IT skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively to deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence
