Assistant Planner

📍 Wessex (Malmesbury)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Planner to join a growing Land and Planning team within a well-established residential development business based in Malmesbury.

Reporting to the Land and Planning Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting planning and development activities across both immediate and strategic residential sites. The role offers excellent exposure to the full planning process, working closely with internal teams, external consultants, local planning authorities and community stakeholders.

This position would suit someone with some early planning experience or a recent graduate looking to build a career within the housebuilding and residential development sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake site appraisals, including planning history reviews, policy analysis and identification of development opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of planning applications, including Outline, Full and Reserved Matters submissions.
  • Support the discharge of planning conditions to help maintain the development pipeline.
  • Prepare planning documentation including Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and supporting reports.
  • Liaise with internal layout designers, external consultants and local planning authorities throughout the planning process.
  • Assist in organising and attending stakeholder and public consultation events.
  • Support the development of planning strategies for medium and long-term site promotion through the local plan process.
  • Monitor local development plans, policy changes and supporting evidence documents across relevant local authorities.
  • Provide general support to the planning team and assist senior colleagues where required.

About You

  • Previous experience in planning, development management or planning policy, either in the public or private sector.
  • RTPI-accredited planning degree or master’s preferred but not essential.
  • A good understanding of the UK planning system.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work accurately, efficiently and with a commercial mindset.
  • Full UK driving licence.
