Principal Town Planner – Planning Consultancy
Location: Flexible / Hybrid (UK)
Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Benefits

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Town Planner to join a well-established and growing independent planning consultancy. Acting on behalf of our confidential client, we are seeking a commercially minded planner who is ready to take a leading role in delivering high-quality planning advice across a diverse portfolio of projects.

This role is ideal for a chartered or experienced senior planner looking to step into a more influential position within a collaborative consultancy environment, where your expertise will directly shape project outcomes and client relationships.

The Opportunity

You will join a respected planning consultancy known for delivering pragmatic, commercially focused planning advice to private and public sector clients. The practice works across a wide range of sectors including residential, commercial, mixed-use, and strategic land promotion, offering exposure to varied and high-profile projects.

As a Principal Town Planner, you will play a key role in managing projects, mentoring junior team members, and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and delivering a portfolio of planning projects from inception through to determination

  • Preparing and submitting planning applications, appeals, and supporting documentation

  • Leading client relationships and acting as a trusted planning adviser

  • Undertaking site appraisals and providing strategic planning advice

  • Engaging with local authorities, stakeholders, and consultants

  • Supporting and mentoring junior planners within the team

  • Contributing to business development and identifying new opportunities

Candidate Requirements

  • MRTPI qualified (or working towards chartership with strong experience)

  • Significant experience within a planning consultancy or local authority environment

  • Proven ability to manage projects and client relationships

  • Strong report writing and communication skills

  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem solving

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
