Assistant Town Planner – Reading (Planning Consultancy)

A well-regarded and growing planning consultancy is looking to appoint an Assistant Town Planner to join its established Reading team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate or early-career planner to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of planning projects while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

The Role
Working as part of a supportive planning team, you will assist in delivering planning advice and securing consents for a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors such as residential, commercial, and mixed-use development.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications and supporting documents

• Conducting planning policy and site research

• Preparing planning statements and reports

• Supporting senior planners with project coordination and client work

• Liaising with local authorities, consultants, and other stakeholders

• Monitoring planning applications and policy developments

About You
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about developing a career in planning and keen to build technical knowledge within a consultancy environment.

You will likely have:

• A degree (or postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline

• Eligibility for, or working towards, MRTPI accreditation

• Some relevant experience through a placement, internship, or early-career role (consultancy or local authority)

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent research and organisational abilities

• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
