Job Title: Senior Arboricultural Officer
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid – office and site attendance required)
Contract: Initial 6-month contract (with potential extension)
Rate: £40–£50 per hour
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Arboricultural Officer to support the delivery of arboricultural services across Birmingham. The role will provide expert technical advice on tree management, development impacts, and statutory processes, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice while contributing to the sustainable management of the local tree stock.
This is a hybrid role, combining office-based work, site inspections, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities

Provide specialist arboricultural advice in relation to planning applications, development proposals, and infrastructure projects

Assess and manage Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), Conservation Area notifications, and high hedge applications

Undertake site inspections, tree surveys, and risk assessments in accordance with industry standards (e.g. BS5837)

Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and committee responses where required

Advise on enforcement action relating to protected trees and unauthorised works

Support the development and implementation of tree management policies, strategies, and best practice guidance

Liaise with internal departments, developers, consultants, elected members, and the public

Provide mentoring or technical guidance to junior officers where appropriate

Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, health and safety requirements, and local authority procedures
Working Arrangements
