Oxfordshire County Council are seeking a Principal Planning Policy Officer (Senior level candidate considered) to support the delivery of sustainable development across the county.
This role is ideally suited to a planning professional with a strong background in planning policy, who is comfortable working with strategic plans, evidence and consultations, and who has an interest in applying those skills within the minerals and waste planning context. Previous minerals and waste experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential for candidates with the right policy foundation and a willingness to develop specialist knowledge.
The role
The post holder will act as a key consultee on minerals and waste matters, ensuring that policy considerations are clearly articulated and appropriately reflected in plans, projects and decisions. Responsibilities include:
- Providing robust and well reasoned planning policy advice on minerals and waste matters
- Preparing consultation responses to ensure minerals and waste considerations are embedded in wider planning and policy work
- Supporting the implementation of the Oxfordshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan
- Responding to a broad range of consultations, including:
- Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs)
- District Council Local Plans
- Neighbourhood Plans
- District and County Matter planning applications
- Neighbouring Authority Local Plans
- Other Minerals and Waste Authority consultations
- Internal strategies and corporate documents
- Maintaining the Minerals and Waste Consultation Database and ensuring all consultations are accurately recorded
- Monitoring the team inbox and coordinating consultation responses
- Working closely with internal colleagues, district councils and external stakeholders
About you
They are seeking someone with a solid grounding in planning policy, who is confident analysing policy documents, assessing proposals and producing clear written responses. You are likely to demonstrate:
- Experience in planning policy, or a closely related planning role
- A good understanding of the plan making process and statutory consultations
- An interest in minerals and waste planning and the ability to develop technical expertise in this area
- Strong analytical and drafting skills, with attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple consultations and competing deadlines
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style
Candidates with existing minerals and waste planning experience are encouraged to apply, but strong planning policy professionals looking to specialise in this area will be equally welcome.
