Planning Enforcement Officer

The role

We are seeking an experienced Planning Enforcement Officer to join our Planning team on a part-time, 12-month contract, with a specific focus on Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and related residential planning breaches.

This role will support the council in managing a growing enforcement caseload, ensuring compliance with planning legislation and protecting residential amenity.

The post offers flexible working arrangements suitable for candidates seeking a part-time contract.

Key responsibilities

You will:

  • Investigate and manage planning enforcement cases, with a strong focus on unauthorised HMOs

  • Carry out site visits, inspections and evidence gathering

  • Assess breaches of planning control and recommend appropriate action

  • Prepare and serve enforcement notices and related legal documentation

  • Liaise with internal teams including housing, legal services and environmental health

  • Engage with landlords, agents, residents and other stakeholders

  • Support appeals, prosecutions and planning inquiries where required
