An Oxfordshire-based council is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support their Development Management team in handling a diverse caseload of complex minor applications and small to mid-scale major developments.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned planner to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking authority during a critical period of growth and transition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, including complex minors and smaller-scale majors
  • Provide expert advice on both urban and rural development proposals
  • Apply a strong working knowledge of Green Belt Policy to relevant applications
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes
  • Support the council’s efforts in bridging the gap during their permanent recruitment campaign

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in Development Management within a UK local authority
  • Comfortable working across both urban and rural contexts
  • Strong understanding of current planning legislation, particularly Green Belt Policy
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Available to attend the office in Oxfordshire once every 1–2 weeks

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with flexibility to work remotely most of the time.

The initial contract is for 6 months, but there is scope for extension depending on the success of the council’s ongoing recruitment efforts.
