Rate: £48–£56 per hour (Inside IR35)
An Oxfordshire-based council is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support their Development Management team in handling a diverse caseload of complex minor applications and small to mid-scale major developments.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned planner to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking authority during a critical period of growth and transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, including complex minors and smaller-scale majors
- Provide expert advice on both urban and rural development proposals
- Apply a strong working knowledge of Green Belt Policy to relevant applications
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes
- Support the council’s efforts in bridging the gap during their permanent recruitment campaign
Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience in Development Management within a UK local authority
- Comfortable working across both urban and rural contexts
- Strong understanding of current planning legislation, particularly Green Belt Policy
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Available to attend the office in Oxfordshire once every 1–2 weeks
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with flexibility to work remotely most of the time.
The initial contract is for 6 months, but there is scope for extension depending on the success of the council’s ongoing recruitment efforts.
