Rate: £50–£55/hour (Inside IR35)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 day in office every 1–2 weeks (flexible for strong candidates)
A Norfolk based council is seeking an experienced Interim Principal Planning Officer to support their Development Management team during a critical delivery phase. This is a hands-on interim role for someone confident in leading complex planning applications and contributing to strategic growth.
Key Highlights:
- Strategic housing and commercial development
- Infrastructure delivery including NSIPs and renewable energy projects
- Newly adopted Local Plan
- High-volume caseload across diverse development types
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead on large-scale and complex planning applications
- Provide expert advice on strategic development proposals
- Mentor and support junior officers within the team
- Manage appeals and associated planning matters
- Ensure high-quality, timely decision-making aligned with local and national policy
Candidate Profile:
- Extensive experience in Development Management within a local authority setting
- Strong understanding of strategic planning and infrastructure delivery
- Confident communicator and skilled negotiator
- Able to work independently and manage competing priorities
- MRTPI desirable but not essential
Working Arrangements:
- Hybrid working with 1 day in the office every 1–2 weeks
- Flexibility for candidates based further afield
- Contract is inside IR35, with rates between £50–£55/hour
