Varnom Ross are working with a Local Authority in the North West who are seeking an experienced Principal Policy Officer to join their Planning Policy team on an interim basis.

The Role:
You will play a key role in shaping and progressing the Council’s Local Plan and wider planning policy work. This includes contributing to evidence base preparation, drafting policies, and engaging with stakeholders to help drive forward sustainable development across the borough.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead on the preparation and delivery of key components of the Local Plan
• Provide expert advice on planning policy matters internally and to Members Prepare and present reports to committees and external stakeholders
• Support public consultations and engage with local communities
• Work collaboratively with other teams and neighbouring authorities

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Significant experience working at Principal level in planning policy
• Strong understanding of the Local Plan process and policy frameworks
• Ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Contract Details:

Rate: £45-£55 an hour

Duration: 3 months rolling

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1-2 days per week in the office
