Varnom Ross are working with a Local Authority in the West Midlands who are seeking an experienced Development Management Team Leader to join their planning department on an interim basis.

You will oversee a small team of planners while taking the lead on a caseload of complex major planning applications. This role offers a great opportunity to shape key developments in the region, whilst supporting and mentoring a capable team of officers.

Key responsibilities:

• Manage and mentor a team of planning officers, ensuring performance targets are met
• Handle a personal caseload of complex major applications
• Provide expert advice to applicants, agents, stakeholders, and elected members
• Contribute to process improvements and best practice within the service

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a senior DM role within a Local Authority
• Strong track record managing major and complex planning applications
• Previous experience line managing or mentoring staff
• Excellent knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy

Contract details:

• 3-month initial contract, highly likely to extend
• Rate: £55–£65 per hour depending on experience, Inside IR35
• Flexible working arrangements, 2 days on site and 3 from home
