Join Our Team

Collaboration and teamwork are at the heart of our business. We provide a supportive and sociable environment where ambitious and talented people can grow a purposeful and rewarding career.

We are looking for MRTPI chartered planners to join our dynamic planning and masterplanning practice.

We plan, design and facilitate the delivery of better communities, essential infrastructure and spaces for business, navigating through approval processes, competing pressures on the environment and the complexity of implementation. If you are interested in working with us on a variety of interesting projects, then why not join us?

David Lock Associates is looking for enthusiastic and experienced individuals who are passionate about creating and delivering great places, and motivated by the opportunity to shape, secure and deliver new development.

Working alongside our exceptional masterplanning, urban design, mapping and graphic communications teams, you will have the chance to apply your own perspective, creative thinking, problem-solving and breadth of skills to deliver great outcomes for our wide range of projects and clients, working as part of a collaborative team, but with autonomy to undertake own tasks.

We are looking for chartered planners with relevant experience in either the private or public sector and demonstrable and transferable skills within the following areas, in particular:

  • Preparation and negotiation of development proposals (particularly residential-led and/or commercial/mixed use planning applications);
  • Negotiating planning permissions, conditions and s106 agreements;
  • Policy and plan-making activity;
  • Shaping promotion strategies for development projects; and
  • Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams and to help co-ordinate design and engineering outputs to put development on the ground.

What’s on offer

We provide opportunities for talented people to achieve great things in an inclusive and mutually-supportive environment, with excellent internal mentoring support and structured career progression.  We employ people who like to be challenged and find satisfaction in working as part of a collaborative team.  DLA offers the potential to grow a fulfilling and stimulating career, building rewarding professional relationships and lasting friendships.

We are wholly owned by an Employee Benefit Trust on behalf of all our employees and have no external shareholders. As an independent business we make all our decisions, with the benefit of our team and practice in mind. We allocate a percentage of our profits to charitable causes and have always invested time and energy into our local community and good causes. We are an inclusive organisation and accommodate a wide range of flexible working arrangements. We also host company-wide study trips which are often abroad, annual away days, and an array of social, cultural and sporting activities. We work hard to be a happy collective.

We share our success with the people who create it. We offer very competitive packages, including performance related bonuses, long service leave on top of annual holiday allowance, an excellent contributory pension scheme, medical insurance scheme, group life insurance, a cycle to work scheme and more.
