Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading multidisciplinary consultancy in their search for an experienced Associate Town Planner to join their growing Birmingham team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious planner to join a successful and progressive business with an established reputation across the planning and infrastructure sector. With an expanding project pipeline, you will have the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of major development and infrastructure projects while playing an important role in the continued growth of the planning team.

The Role

As an Associate Town Planner, you will take responsibility for delivering planning projects across a range of sectors, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as Planning Lead on a range of projects across different markets and sectors.
  • Managing planning projects from inception through to delivery.
  • Providing high-quality planning advice to clients and stakeholders.
  • Supporting and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Taking an active role in bid preparation, tender submissions and framework opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Supporting business development and work-winning activities.
  • Preparing planning reports, submissions and other technical documentation.
  • Working alongside professionals across environmental, engineering, design and other specialist disciplines.
  • Providing guidance and support to junior members of the planning team.
  • Contributing to the continued growth and development of the wider planning team.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • RTPI membership or be working towards chartership.
  • Strong experience within planning consultancy or a related environment.
  • Experience across strategic planning, planning policy and development management.
  • An understanding of TCPA, DCO, TWAO or other planning and consenting processes.
  • Experience of the Environmental Impact Assessment process would be advantageous.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and deliver work to deadlines and within budget.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The confidence to provide planning advice and engage with clients.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive and commercially minded approach.
  • Experience supporting business development, work winning or client growth would be beneficial.
