Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be working with a highly respected planning and development consultancy in the appointment of an experienced Senior Planner to join their growing Bristol team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planning professional looking to take on greater responsibility within a well-established and forward-thinking consultancy. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a diverse portfolio of projects, managing planning applications and providing expert advice to clients across a range of development sectors.

You will join a collaborative and supportive planning team, working closely with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary colleagues throughout the planning process. The role offers excellent exposure to a variety of projects, strong client interaction and the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for project delivery and the development of junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing and delivering a varied portfolio of planning projects across a range of development sectors
  • Preparing, submitting and managing planning applications, appeals and associated planning documentation
  • Providing professional planning advice to clients throughout the development process
  • Preparing high-quality planning statements, reports and supporting documentation
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and key deadlines
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to support successful project delivery
  • Attending client meetings, site visits and meetings with local planning authorities where required
  • Supporting business development activities and contributing to the growth of the planning team
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team
  • Keeping up to date with changes to planning legislation, policy and relevant guidance

Requirements:

  • RTPI-accredited degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • MRTPI qualified, or working towards Chartered membership
  • Previous experience within a planning consultancy, local authority or development environment
  • Proven experience managing planning applications and development projects
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system, planning legislation and policy framework
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Confidence in building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in contributing to business development
  • A proactive, professional and collaborative approach to work
