Interim Local Plans Manager
Location: Hybrid (with approximately one day per month on site in the East Midlands)
Rate: £500–£650 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract: Initial 6-month contract with the potential to roll/extend
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Interim Local Plans Manager to lead a planning policy team through the final stages of a Local Plan update.
This is a key leadership role requiring an individual with a strong track record of delivering Local Plans through examination and adoption. Working closely with senior officers and elected Members, you will provide strategic leadership while managing a small, high-performing planning policy team.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the final stages of a Local Plan, including Main Modifications, consultation and responses to representations.
- Manage and support a small planning policy team.
- Provide strategic planning policy advice to senior leadership and Members.
- Oversee service delivery, budgets and programme management.
- Drive the Local Plan through to successful adoption.
About you
- Chartered Member of the RTPI.
- Extensive experience leading Local Plan preparation, examination and adoption.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience managing budgets and wider planning services.
- Able to work independently while engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Willing to attend the office approximately once per month, with the remainder of the role delivered remotely.
Contract details
- Start: Mid-September 2026
- Duration: 6-month rolling contract
- Rate: £500–£650 per day, dependent on experience
- Working pattern: Hybrid, with limited on-site attendance
