Planning Officer / Senior Planning Officer – Essex Council

📍 Essex | 6-Month Contract | £45 per Hour | Hybrid Working

Are you an experienced Planning Officer or Senior Planning Officer looking for your next contract opportunity with a supportive, high-performing local authority?

We're working with a well-regarded Essex council seeking an experienced planner to join their Development Management team on an initial 6-month contract.

What's on offer?

  • £45 per hour
  • Approx. £4,500 take-home pay per month (depending on your individual tax circumstances)
  • Hybrid working with just one day per week in the office
  • Initial 6-month contract with the potential for extension
  • Opportunity to work on a varied caseload within a Green Belt authority

The Role

You'll be managing a diverse caseload of planning applications, providing professional planning advice, preparing reports, and working closely with councillors, stakeholders, and applicants to deliver high-quality planning decisions.

Experience within a Green Belt authority or dealing with Green Belt applications would be highly beneficial.

Why join this team?

This is a genuinely welcoming and collaborative planning team with an excellent reputation for supporting contractors from day one. Managers are approachable, communication is open, and you'll be trusted to get on with the job while having the support you need when required.

The team prides itself on creating a positive working environment where planners can thrive, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a contract with a great culture rather than just another placement.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a UK local authority planning team
  • Ability to manage a Development Management caseload independently
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • MRTPI is desirable but not essential

If you're looking for a well-paid contract with an excellent work-life balance, minimal office attendance, and the chance to join a friendly and supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.
