I'm currently working with a well-regarded Local Authority in Essex that is looking to appoint an experienced Planning Officer to join their Development Management team on an initial 3-month rolling contract, with a strong likelihood of extension.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planner who is looking for a well-paid contract with genuine flexibility, a manageable office presence, and the opportunity to work on interesting planning applications.
What's on offer?
💷 £45 per hour
💰 Approximately £4,500 take-home pay per month (depending on your tax arrangements)
📅 Initial 3-month contract with rolling extensions
🏡 Hybrid working – just 1 day per week in the office

The role
You'll be responsible for managing your own caseload of planning applications, with a particular focus on Green Belt applications. The council is looking for someone who is confident working independently, can provide sound planning recommendations, and is comfortable navigating Green Belt policy and planning legislation.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and experienced team where you'll be able to make an immediate impact without excessive office attendance.
What we're looking for
✔ Previous experience working as a Planning Officer within a UK Local Planning Authority
✔ Strong knowledge of Development Management and the planning application process
✔ Demonstrable experience assessing and determining Green Belt applications
✔ Excellent report-writing and communication skills
✔ Ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision
