Principal Planning Officer – Essex
£60–65 per hour | 6-Month Initial Contract | Hybrid Working
We are currently working with a Local Authority in Essex seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support a busy Development Management team on a high-profile caseload.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior planner with strong experience managing complex major applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a portfolio of major and strategic planning applications.
- Leading on complex schemes requiring Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
- Coordinating and managing Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs) with developers and key stakeholders.
- Preparing reports and recommendations for Planning Committee.
- Liaising with consultees, applicants, legal teams, elected members, and senior management.
- Providing expert planning advice on significant development proposals.
Current Project Work:
The successful candidate will play a key role in the assessment and progression of a 108MW wind farm application, working closely with stakeholders throughout the planning process and ensuring delivery against agreed project milestones.
Requirements:
- Significant Development Management experience within a Local Authority setting.
- Strong knowledge of EIA development and associated legislation.
- Proven experience managing Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs).
- Ability to lead on major and complex planning applications with minimal supervision.
- MRTPI qualification preferred.
Contract Details:
- £60–65 per hour (DOE)
