A growing and well-established planning consultancy is seeking a Planner or Senior Planner to join its expanding team in Kent. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planning professional looking to work across a varied and exciting portfolio of projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments, while navigating the evolving landscape of Green Belt and Grey Belt policy.
The successful candidate will enjoy genuine responsibility and ownership, leading projects from initial client engagement through to planning determination. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, you will also contribute to larger and more complex schemes, helping clients achieve successful planning outcomes.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing planning projects from inception through to determination, including programme management, client liaison, and budget oversight.
- Preparing, submitting, and managing planning applications, appeals, and supporting documentation.
- Acting as a key member of project teams on medium and large-scale developments.
- Attending client meetings and providing professional planning advice.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees, and key stakeholders.
- Monitoring changes in planning legislation and policy, particularly emerging Green Belt and Grey Belt guidance, and applying this knowledge to project work.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members where appropriate.
About You
Candidates should possess:
- A strong understanding of the UK planning system and local government processes.
- A minimum of 3 years' planning experience gained within either a planning consultancy or local authority environment.
- MRTPI qualification or active progress towards chartered membership.
- Experience of residential, commercial, Green Belt or Grey Belt planning projects would be advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client-facing situations.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and meetings across the region.
