Transport Planner – Development Planning
Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Transport Planner to join our Development Planning team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of transport planning services for a wide range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial, education, and leisure developments. The role will involve preparing transport assessments, travel plans, transport statements, and supporting documents to assist clients in securing planning consent.
Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will provide transport planning advice throughout the development lifecycle, from site feasibility and planning applications through to detailed design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare Transport Assessments (TA), Transport Statements (TS), Travel Plans (TP), and other supporting transport planning documents.

Undertake transport impact assessments for development proposals.

Analyse traffic, travel behaviour, and accessibility data using industry-standard software and databases.

Support the preparation of planning applications and discharge of planning conditions.

Liaise with clients, local authorities, developers, architects, and other stakeholders.

Conduct site visits and review existing transport infrastructure and accessibility.

Assist with junction capacity assessments, traffic modelling, parking studies, and active travel assessments.

Prepare technical reports, drawings, and presentation materials to a high professional standard.

Contribute to project management activities, including programme monitoring and budget control.

Support public consultation and stakeholder engagement activities where required.

Keep up to date with planning policy, transport guidance, and industry best practice.
Skills and Experience
Essential
-
Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.

Experience in development planning transport consultancy or a similar transport planning role.

Understanding of the UK planning system and transport-related planning policy.

Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.

Strong analytical and report-writing skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team.
Desirable
-
Experience using transport planning and traffic modelling software such as Junctions 10, LinSig, TRICS, TEMPro, GIS, or equivalent.

Knowledge of active travel, sustainable transport, and mobility planning principles.

Working towards or holding professional membership with the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), the Transport Planning Society (TPS), or a similar professional body.

Project management experience.
