Senior / Principal Planner – North East

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior or Principal Planner to join a well-established national planning consultancy in Newcastle upon Tyne. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of high-profile projects, the successful candidate will work across a diverse portfolio of developments throughout the UK.
This role offers the chance to work on major schemes across sectors including residential, mixed-use, education, healthcare, energy, leisure, retail, defence, and commercial development. The consultancy advises a wide range of leading developers, contractors, educational institutions, and private sector clients nationwide.
The Newcastle team has an excellent reputation for delivering high-profile and award-winning developments across the region, including leisure, healthcare, student accommodation, urban living, and regeneration schemes. Current projects include large-scale residential-led regeneration, city centre mixed-use developments, industrial and logistics projects, and strategic urban expansion schemes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing complex planning applications, providing strategic planning advice, supporting junior colleagues, and contributing to the continued growth of the Newcastle office and wider business.

Key Requirements
- RTPI accredited degree (or equivalent relevant qualification)
- MRTPI qualified
- Strong experience across a range of planning sectors
- Excellent knowledge of the UK planning system
- Experience managing complex planning applications and providing strategic advice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Commercial awareness and strong organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on projects within the North East and/or North West
- Background in education, large-scale residential, or mixed-use urban development projects
Both full-time and part-time applicants will be considered. Employees are expected to work from the office a minimum of three days per week, with flexibility to work from home for the remainder.
