Development Management Team Leader
Surrey (Hybrid – c. 1 day per week in the office)
£55–£65 per hour (DOE)
6 Month Initial Contract

We are working with a Surrey-based Local Authority to appoint an experienced Development Management Team Leader on an initial 6-month contract.
This is a key leadership role within a busy planning service, offering a flexible hybrid arrangement with office presence required approximately once per week.
The Role
You will lead and support a small team of 4–5 Planning Officers, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality and efficient Development Management service, while also maintaining a small personal caseload of complex applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing, mentoring, and supporting a team of Planning Officers, including workload allocation and performance oversight
- Signing off reports and delegated decisions, ensuring consistency and quality across the team
- Handling a small caseload of complex and/or strategic planning applications
- Leading on major applications, appeals, and committee presentations where required
- Acting as a key point of contact for Members, stakeholders, developers, and internal teams
- Supporting the Development Management Manager in driving service performance and meeting statutory targets
