A leading UK planning and design consultancy consultancy is looking to recruit an Town Planner with strong rural experience to their team in Bury St Edmunds. This is an exciting opportunity to work on rural and agricultural projects across multiple offices and contribute to high-quality, evidence-led planning solutions.
About the Group
The company is part of a three-strong group that provides specialist advice across a wide range of development types and sectors, including complex projects. They advise landowners, developers, and public sector clients from feasibility through delivery, covering planning applications, public consultation, appeals, and environmental assessments to ensure projects are robust, compliant, and achievable.
The Role
As a Rural focussed Town Planner, you will provide expert advice on agricultural development and rural planning matters, manage planning submissions, undertake agricultural assessments, and support clients in delivering successful development outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and manage planning submissions for agricultural and rural projects

Undertake agricultural assessments to support planning and development processes

Provide advice on farm business operations and rural planning issues

Liaise with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and local authorities

Ensure projects comply with policy, planning, and environmental requirements
Requirements
-
Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) or Chartered Surveyor (RICS)

Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a private sector planning or rural consultancy environment

Strong knowledge of agricultural development, rural planning, and farm business operations
-
Ability to manage projects independently and deliver high-quality outputs

Experience undertaking agricultural assessments of all types
