£55,000 - £70,000pa + Benefits

Fraser Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a well-established, independent Planning & Development Consultancy on the hire of an Associate Director to join their growing team in Preston.

The business provides specialist planning and environmental consultancy across all types and scales of development, including complex projects. They advise developers, landowners, and public sector clients from feasibility through to delivery, covering major applications, public consultation, appeals, and Environmental Impact Assessments—ensuring projects are robust, compliant, and achievable.

Their work spans a diverse range of sectors, including:

  • Commercial & Industrial

  • Housing

  • Energy

  • Sport & Leisure

  • Transport

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) to take a leading role in delivering major planning projects, with a particular focus on housing land supply (HLS), planning appeals, and strategic planning advice.

The Role
As Associate Director, you will play a key role in leading complex planning projects, acting as an expert witness, and supporting the continued growth of the business. You will work both independently and collaboratively, providing high-quality, evidence-led advice to a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead housing land supply (HLS) assessments, including affordable housing and housing need work

  • Act as Expert Witness at planning appeals, inquiries, and hearings

  • Prepare and present evidence, managing engagement with Counsel and Chambers

  • Provide strategic planning advice across a range of projects

  • Support and mentor junior team members

  • Contribute to business development and maintain strong client relationships

Requirements

  • Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI)

  • Significant UK town planning experience, ideally with strong private sector exposure

  • Strong, recent experience acting as Expert Witness at appeals and inquiries

  • Proven expertise in HLS and planning strategy work

  • Ability to manage projects independently and deliver high-quality outputs

  • Established client relationships and potential to generate new business (subject to covenants)
